Mushroom Growkit Instruction
Before you begin:
Upon delivery, immediately check the package in the presence of the courier for any visible damage. If the package is damaged to the extent that you can reasonably assume the kit has also been damaged, take a photo and refuse the shipment. In all other cases, check the contents of the box to ensure everything is included and that the growkit container is in good condition with the lid securely fastened.
The box should contain 1 growkit, 1 plastic bag, 1 paperclip, and this manual. Is anything missing? Please contact your supplier.
Keep the lid on the growkit until you have read through the entire manual.
Mycologics growkits are only shipped from the nursery when the kit is fully grown, the mycelium is visible on top of the covering layer, and it is free from contamination. Check this after opening the package. If the mycelium has not fully grown into the cover layer, place the growkit in a warm area of about 26ºC for a few days.
Only proceed to the next step when the mycelium is visible on the surface.
Step 1: Preparation
First, thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water. For added safety, you can then disinfect your hands with gel. Take the bag out of the box and place it on a sturdy surface. Pour 200 ml of tap water into the bag. This maintains high humidity and protects the kit from drying out.
Step 2: Opening the kit
Carefully remove the lid of the growkit. Make sure your hands do not touch the contents of the kit. (TIP: If you have disinfectant wipes or gel, use them to wipe down the surfaces of the kit. This will help you enjoy your kit longer.)
Step 3: Placing the kit
Gently place the growkit in the bag. Make sure not to tilt the kit too much to prevent damaging the surface or worse, spilling the contents into the bag.
Step 4: Closing the bag
Fold the top of the bag over 2 to 3 times, secure it with a paperclip, and place the whole thing in a warm spot about 23ºC, away from direct sunlight.
Step 5: Making air holes
After three days, cut two holes on each side of the bag the size of a euro coin.
Step 6: Growth of the primordia
Within 6 to 10 days, buds will begin to form on the surface of the growkit. Once they reach the size of a pinhead, lightly spray the surface every other day with a spray bottle to keep it moist.
Step 7: Harvest
The buds will grow into mature, harvestable mushrooms within a few days. To harvest the mushrooms: hold them close to the base and pull them out with a twisting motion, trying to minimize damage to the cover layer.
